The side French braid with a ponytail is the classic comfort hairstyle for fall as it lets your hair sit loose so it can repair after a long summer. But don't limit this look to autumn, it works perfect for all seasons.
You’ll see it adorned with sunflowers or combined with ribbons for spring and summer, and a certain cartoon movie princess that “Let it Go” wears this look during her hit song. Fall happens to be the time people let it sit more naturally with the unadorned style so their hair can relax.
Unlike the classic French braid which goes down the back of your head, when you set it off to a side you also set a mood. If you're having friends over to catch up or a romantic evening, you likely have a favorite seat and side. Style the French braid to frame your face so as you sit to enjoy their company, they see the side with the braid, your good side.
This look is easy to do and only takes six steps. Because you can leave bangs out, it is face framing and works for all face shapes.
Hair length: long
Skill level: Beginner
Face shape: All
You will need:
To create this look:
- Brush any tangles and knots out of your hair.
- Separate three small sections of hair on the side of your head where you want the French braid to start.
- Weave the right side over the middle, then repeat with the left.
- Now add equal sized sections from below the first weave and repeat.
- Once you get to the bottom of your head, secure the braid with the hair tie.
- Now run your fingers through the ponytail portion to make sure it didn’t get any knots or tangles.
If you want a thicker weave, tease it to the desired thickness. When you want to keep flyaways at bay, spritz a light mist of finishing spray.
It’s that easy to create this long hair look that works year round. And it's especially good for fall since it is not damaging when your hair isn’t pulled tight.
