Back to school season is approaching, and the 90’s are still all the rage! There’s hair clips, prints, and patterns from our youth. What’s even better is that the looks are fun and easy-to-do. If you’re ready to help your daughter feel confident, comfortable, and ready for the big-day with less-stress, these five hairstyles are for you!
Each one can be styled in under ten minutes making them perfect for busy school mornings. They’ll keep her hair held comfy all day so she can focus on class, catching up with friends, and making new ones. And they’ll hold in place whether she’s playing at recess, active in gym class, or sitting in class. Best of all, you can talk to her friends' parents so they can sync mix-and-match colors letting her and her besties walk through the door with a confident smile ready to take on the school year!
And if you go with spiral hair ties like TELETIES instead of elastic, any extras can be worn as tradable bracelets to make new friends, share with a kid that is alone so they feel like they belong, and work as a fidget to help your daughter focus.
Bunchie Twin Tails
Bunchies, also known as twin tails, are perfect for a first day at school look. Unlike distracting pigtails which can fall into her peripheral vision, they keep her hair pulled backwards while looking adorable!
- Brush or comb your child's hair to remove any knots.
- Divide her hair into two equal sections from the forehead to the nape.
- Gather one side's hair up high on the head and secure it with a hair tie.
- Do the same on the other side, making sure both are at the same height.
- Now style the bunchies by smoothing the hair, curling it, or however she is going to feel more confident with her look.
Braided Twin Tails
The braided twin tails style is just like the bunchies, but has more texture and more fun. It’s easy to do, and because you can use more colorful hair ties, there are more pops of color to keep the day bright and happy. And you can mix and match the hair ties to her outfit.
- Brush or comb your child's hair to remove any knots.
- Divide her hair into two equal sections from the forehead to the nape.
- Gather one side's hair up high on the head and secure it with a hair tie.
- Do the same on the other side, making sure both are at the same height.
- Now split one of the two sections into three strands and braid it by crossing them over each other using this french braiding technique (it is a standard braid pattern) and secure the bottom with a tiny hair tie.
Hair Clip French Twist
The hair clip french twist is a quick and easy style to do. And best of all it is perfect when you’re short on time. You can help your daughter do it, or teach her on her own. This way she has a cool new skill to show off on the first day of school, and she’ll be able to use the claw clip as a fidget if she’s nervous in class.
- Straighten out her hair with a brush and pull it back to where you’d form a low ponytail.
- While holding your hair upwards, begin twisting your hair so it forms a funnel or spiral upwards, but don’t wrap it around like you’re doing a hair bun. It should be a column shape.
- Once it is twisted and flat against your head, take the claw clip and secure it in place so the twist is in the middle of the hair clip and the tip sticks out the top.
Half-up Half-down Hair Clip Ponytail
In the photo above you’ll see our model has bangs. These can be distracting for some kids in class, at the same time bangs can be used as a fidget to focus for other children. If you decide to go with the bangs version, as you pull her hair back in step two, leave the front out so you can shape the bangs to her preference after you finish the look.
- Brush her hair smooth or just enough to remove any knots or tangles.
- Gather her hair from the forehead to the crown, leaving the lower half down.
- Secure the upper half into a ponytail with a hair tie if she’s going to reclip the style but wants to keep the ponytail while she plays with the clip, or with a hair clip only if she’s going to take the style out later and let her hair flow free.
Separated Dutch Braid
The Dutch braid on its own is a way to help her feel confident, strong, and fierce. The look is bold and keeps her hair pulled comfortably-tight. And when you combine pops of color throughout the hairstyle with bright colored hair ties like TELETIES, you add a playful and friendly feel to this once intimidating look. Not to mention the ties can be used to bring out the colors from her outfit for a full-matching ensemble.
- Begin by brushing her hair to remove knots and tangles.
- Start the Dutch braid at the top of her head by dividing a section of hair into three strands.
- Cross the right strand under the middle, then the left strand under the new middle strand. Dutch braids weave underneath the hair unlike the french braid pattern above which goes above the strands.
- Keep adding hair to each side strand before you cross it under the middle.
- Continue this process until you reach the middle of the hair length.
- Secure the braid at this point with a spiral hair tie.
- Continue braiding the remaining hair in the same pattern until you reach the end.
- Secure the end of the braid with another spiral hair tie.
