Scrunchie Space Buns - Style This in 5 Easy Steps

Tired of doing a traditional space bun but still love the look? Or maybe you want a larger pop of color and texture? We’ve got you covered!

From going to class, attending a music festival, or some well-deserved gal-pal time with friends, a scrunchie space bun elevates your look by adding texture and color with your hair's natural beauty.

Best of all, scrunchie space buns work for all hair types including coils and fine. Because you’re wrapping the scrunchie over a bun and the bun secures it in place, it’s a perfect scrunchie hairstyle for people with fine hair.  You can always add a bobby pin if you want to be doubly sure it doesn't slide.

You will need:

  • 2 small or large hair ties (whichever size you use for a ponytail)
  • 2 scrunchies (small for thin or short hair, medium for medium and thick hair, large for long and thick hair)
  • 1 hair brush or comb
  • 2 medium or large hair ties (optional)
  • 2 bobby pins (optional)

To create this look:

  1. Smooth out your hair with the brush or comb and part your hair down the middle.
  2. Gather your hair on one side of the part and collect it into a ponytail where you want the space bun to sit.
  3. Secure it with the small or medium hair tie so it is a ponytail, and then wrap the ponytail around the base so it becomes a hair bun.
  4. Secure the hair bun with the scrunchie.
    1. If you want extra hold on the hair bun, use the larger hair tie to secure the bun in place before adding the scrunchie.
    2. If you’re worried about the scrunchie slipping, secure it to the bun with a bobby pin.
  5. Repeat on the other side.

It’s that easy to elevate the traditional space bun hairstyle. If you enjoyed this guide, enter your email below and we’ll send you more just like it.
