Scrunchie Bubble Braids Tutorial - 5 Easy Steps!

The classic bubble braid is a fun and timeless look, but what happens when you want more color, texture, and pizazz? Que the scrunchies!

By using scrunchies in your bubble braid you’re adding fabric, more color, and more depth to your look. Because scrunchies come in multiple colors and patterns, you can start your fashion color palette at your hair, and keep it flowing to your toes. And you can customize this look as much or as little as you want.

Use a scrunchie at the top of the ponytail and hair coils throughout the rest for pops of color. Use a scrunchie on every other bubble alternating with coils to create a cool pattern. Or use alternating scrunchie colors if you’re going for a color block theme.

Do you have fine or thin hair? Add a hair tie below the scrunchie, or twist it into a figure 8 shape and fold it over so the hole is smaller and feed your hair through.

You Will Need

  • A hair brush
  • Enough scrunchies to sit in between the bubbles
  • One hair tie for each scrunchie for thin hair

How to Do a Scrunchie Bubble Braid

Note: for thin hair, if you don't want to twist the scrunchie, use a hair tie below each scrunchie to secure the bubble.
  1. With the hair brush, gently smooth tangles and knots from your hair.
  2. Pull your hair back into a high ponytail and secure it with a scrunchie.
  3. About an inch or two down, place the next scrunchie and tease out the bubble.
  4. Repeat this until you reach the bottom of the ponytail
  5. Tease each length of hair between the scrunchies to make sure the bubbles are even.
